HOW TO DO TRICEPS DIPS

Triceps Dips: Strengthen Your Arms and More

Triceps dips are a highly effective compound exercise that targets multiple muscle groups, primarily the triceps, chest, and front of the shoulders. They are known for their ability to build upper body strength and lean muscle mass in the arms. Here's how to perform triceps dips correctly:

How to Perform Triceps Dips:

  1. Starting Position: To begin, find parallel bars or a dip station. Stand between the bars, and grip each bar with your palms facing down. Your arms should be fully extended, and your body should be upright. If the bars are higher than your shoulders, you may need to jump slightly to get into the starting position.

  2. Form: Inhale as you bend your elbows and slowly lower your body toward the floor. Lean your body forward very slightly as you lower to engage the triceps more effectively. Lower your body until your elbows are bent to about 90 degrees or slightly less.

  3. Return: Exhale as you straighten your elbows to lift your body back to the starting position. Fully extend your arms, but don't lock your elbows at the top.

Personal Trainer Tips:

  • Perform the exercise in a slow and controlled manner to prevent swaying or using momentum.

  • Use a comfortable range of motion. You don't need to lower your body as far as possible. A 90-degree angle at the elbows and shoulders is sufficient.

  • If you're not strong enough to perform full triceps dips, consider starting with bench dips, a lever tricep dip, or using a dip assist machine to gradually build your strength.

Triceps Dips Benefits:

  1. Arm Strength: Triceps dips are one of the most effective exercises for building arm strength. They target the triceps muscles, which are crucial for pushing and extending movements.

  2. Muscle Development: Along with strength, triceps dips contribute to muscle development in the triceps, enhancing the definition and size of your upper arms.

  3. Closed Kinetic Chain Exercise: Triceps dips are considered a closed kinetic chain exercise, meaning your movements are centered around a fixed point (the bars). This increases joint stability and minimizes the risk of injury.

  4. Triceps Emphasis: While other muscles are involved, triceps dips place a strong emphasis on the triceps, making them a valuable exercise for anyone looking to target this muscle group specifically.
